I'm joining the fray of the blogosphere and posting a (book-inspired) quiz. (Some of these questions were influenced by others, Library Thing and Pop Culture Junkie, so they deserve a separate shout out.)1. Do you have a favorite book?

1. I know. This is an unfair question. If you can’t name a favorite, I understand. I can’t really either. You can see my top five along the sidebar, and even after all the books I’ve read, these five still rank that high.
2. I have many authors I like to read, but I don’t think I’ll ever skip a book by Shannon Olson, Khaled Hosseini or Jhumpa Lahiri. While I enjoy Nick Hornby, Jodi Picoult, etc., after several books – with a disappointment thrown in here and there – I’m not as urged to read them as I once was, especially not as soon as they come out.
3. I read lots of different genres, from nonfiction to fiction to memoir. I’m not into Sci Fi or comic books really (though Maus I and II are both hands-down, life-changing amazing), and I only read thriller/mystery every now and then. I may get on a fiction kick for awhile, but then I’ll have to move to a bit of nonfiction to bring myself back to reality and keep my brain from feeling like it's turning to mush.
4. I buy almost all of my books from Amazon for the cheaper prices and the Super Saver shipping. Next in line is Barnes & Noble because it’s right down the street from my work. I sell my books to Half-Price Books.
5. I prefer to read the book before seeing the movie, because in my mind, the book is almost always better. However, sometimes if the book doesn’t really interest me, but we’re looking to see a movie, I make an exception. (Examples: Because it has many famous faces in it, the movie He’s Just Not That Into You, coming out this fall, looks cute. I don’t plan on reading the book though. No Country for Old Men won Best Picture, so I felt like I had to see it. Because I was worried I wouldn’t be a huge fan, I didn’t want to spend time with the book. That was a good decision. I read The Hobbit, but just couldn't get into LOTR. The movies, however, were awesome.) And, sometimes I never even know a movie was a book to begin with.
I know I took the easy way out on some of these questions by giving multiple answers, so feel free to do the same. Let me know your thoughts!

1. Do you have a favorite book?
For a while my favorite book was A Time to Kill by John Grishom, then for a good while it was Peace Like a River by Leif Enger, I think my current favorite is The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield.
2. Do you have a favorite author?
I have a lot of favorite authors for fun reading, such as Sue Grafton, Robert Parker, Marian Keyes and Janet Evanovich, but when it comes to quality, I mostly find there are one hit wonders, though Khaled Housseini is up there right now and so is Jodi Picoult.

I'm partial to mystery and crime novels. Right now Jacqueline Winspear's Maisie Dobbs series has be hooked.
4. From where do you get most of your books?
I buy from Amazon mostly or Barnes & Noble. I reread a lot of books, so I'd rather own than get from the library.
5. Read the book or see the movie?
Depends. Often I like a movie so much that I read the book after (Atonement) and other times if I read the book I'm too afraid to see the movie, cause I think the director will wreck it. I love movies so I often do both, it just depends on timing which I did first. Often if a movie looks really good, I'll rush out for the books so I can read it before, but there's not always time.

1. In high school I proclaimed the Great Gatsby my favorite. Haven't picked another since, just added on. Books like The Namesake and The Time Traveler's Wife etc.
2. No.. that's a really hard question. I'm just now starting to be the person that goes, oooh so and so has a new books out, must get!
3. No way! I usually go through waves of a favorite genre, I never lose the old ones just add on. My current kick is Young Adult, my last one was Graphic Novels. I also like chick lit, regular fiction, memoirs, interesting non fiction (you ask what is interesting?) Malcolm Gladwell type non-fiction. PS If you ever decide to look more into comics go over to Big Brain Comics on Washington, right near the Open Book. It's a great store!
4. From where don't I get them! Half Price Books, Amazon, Borders, other random stores, Bookmooch. You should look into Bookmooch for trading! I used to take my old books to Half Price Books too until I joined Bookmooch.
5. My answer is pretty much exactly yours. I'll usually read and then watch a movie, sometimes the other way around. And if I don't think I"ll really care for the book, just see the movie. I've been known to know a movie is coming out and make sure I read the book beforehand! So I'm prepared!

What an impossible question. So far, no I haven't found anything perfect enough to be a favorite. To Kill a Mockingbird comes close.

Jonathan Safran Foer. Love him to no end. He is just my people. I can't wait to see what he continues to produce.

Definitely fiction and I always prefer first person. Lately, I'm really liking historical fiction, which I never would have tried, but read all the time for work.
4. From where do you get most of your books?
Barnes and Noble. I just enjoy the experience and I like the instant gratification of buying in the store.
5. Read the book or see the movie?
If I'm going to do both, I like to read it first, and as I mentioned, I'd like to know the actors if it's been announced. I cannot see a movie then read a book. I get too bored. However, I certainly see tons of movies that I didn't know were books first.
Oh, a follow up to #3 would obviously be adolescent lit. I'm a big fan.

I have a zillion. The Blind Assassin, The Edible Woman, To Kill a Mockingbird, A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, Push, The Kite Runner, The Orchid Thief, Island of the Blue Dolphins, Random Family, Cash by Johnny Cash, She's Come Undone....etc.....etc....

Margaret Atwood is my number one favorite, and there are a million more I love.
3. Do you have a favorite genre? Definitely nonfiction things. I love some fiction, but the older I get, the less I read of it. Nonfiction seems like reading...with a purpose. Now that I'm not in school anymore, it helps me feel like I'm still learning.But any fiction that has won the Booker Prize is usually on my to-read list.
4. From where do you get most of your books? Borders. I have a members thing there and sometimes get 40 percent off books. I love the smell of bookstores. I know Amazon is cheaper, but I'd miss the experience.
5. Read the book or see the movie? Oh, almost always read the book.
